Lincoln, NE -Whitesboro, TX by way of Colorado

Well we're finally in Texas. We drove from Lincoln, NE to Denver on friday. We arrived at the McNeil's (who were in Indo with us, Caleb was in my class) at 2:00 in the afternoon finding everybody there ready to go to the wedding location.

I was shocked to see some friends I hadn't expected to see. Jonathan Sunarjo (gradeschool friend) had flown over from Switzerland, and Elliot Dawson (another childhood friend) was there as well.

We parked our car and loaded into a borrowed van to go to the wedding location, 2.5 hours west of Denver. We were barely a half hour out of denver on our first climb when the van overheated. We were stuck on a narrow shoulder with big Semi thundering right by us up the mountain. We were able to back the van down half a mile where the was a little more room and we waited for Caleb McNeil's grandpa to come rescue us in his motorhome. We sat around playing cards and talking in the car with all doors and windows open to bring relief from the sun.

Caleb's grandpa arrived 1.5 hours later with the motorhome and we all piled in and rode the rest of the way in style and comfort on the couches of his motorhome. He dropped us of at the hotel where everybody was staying and we got picked in a 4-wheel drive vehicle to take us the rest of the way (.5 hours of dirt roads up the mountain).

We spent our first night in 2 indian TP's lighted by the headlights of cars. The next morning we played sand volleyball and hung around. Several of us who were not in the wedding party hiked to a nearby waterfall, which was supposedly 1 mile away but ended up being closer to 3.5 miles away. We had fun though, making it back with an hour to spare before the wedding.

The wedding itself was on a deck right on a little lake with some big mountains framing the background. We met new people who had served in Indonesia and knew of my family and hung out with old friends we hadn't seen in years.

That night we spent in a nearby cabin, half of our group left at 2:00 AM to make it back to Denver in time for their flights. The rest of us left at 8:00 in the morning packing all that had been left behind by the others :). In the little town by the highway we repacked the van and strapped half the baggage on the roof because we would be carrying 9 people in the minivan in true Missionary style. With the help of uncle Dick and Kevin Pust we were able to secure cargo straps which would keep stuff on the roof and packed everybody in the van. Our trip back to Denver was thankfully without car trouble.

Missy and I left from the McNeil's house around 11:30 on sunday morning and headed south to meet 2 friends from Moody in Pueblo, CO. We had lunch with them and spent an hour and a half catching up to each others lives from the past year.

Missy and I continued south into New Mexico and then East into Texas. We drove untill 11:00PM, and found ourselves a cheap little motel, not thinking we could drive any more. This morning we drove the remaining 3.5 hours to Whitesboro, TX where we are staying with a family friend for the next few days.
