Since being back at Moody this semester I've started instrument training. An instrument license allows you to fly through clouds. Of course you still have to stay away from thunderstorms, ice etc, but an instrument license allows your flying to be less affected by weather. Someday we may be flying instrument approaches with GPS into missionary airstrips.
Below is a Cessna 172 instrument panel. Some days we may go up and fly for an hour and a half and for an hour all we see is these instruments. Some approaches we go down to 200 feet above the ground for a landing before the instructor allows us to look outside to see the runway.
